Dental
American Student Dental Association (ASDA)
ASDA was organized in the early 1970s by a cadre of student leaders
to create a national unified voice for dental students. The history of ASDA is rooted in advocacy as
the organization took a leading role in issues such as staffing
Indian Health Services programs, recruiting minority students and
matters related to public health. With a membership of just under 17,000, the ASDA represents approximately
87 percent of dental students.

Student National Dental Association (SNDA)
SNDA originated from concerned dental students at Meharry Medical
College in 1970 and has become the largest minority student organization
in the United States. SNDA has grown to approximately 1,100 minority
dental student members who are from African-American, Hispanic,
and Native backgrounds. Its ultimate goal is improving the health
manpower distribution among the minority population as defined by
the Department of Health and Human Services.

Hispanic Dental Association (HDA)
HDA was established in 1990 by 10 Hispanic dental professionals.
HDA membership now covers all 50 states, 33 affiliate chapters nationwide, 35 student
organizations, and several
additional groups in the application process.

Society of American Indian Dentists (SAID)
SAID began in April 1990 by six American Indian dentists in Denver to develop a mission statement and organize a society that
would meet the needs of American Indian dentists, dental students,
and allied dental students. There are student dental SAID organizations
at the University of Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health
and at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. A third is being created at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.

Medical
American Medical Student Association (AMSA)
AMSA is a student-governed,
national organization committed to representing the concerns of
physicians-in-training. With a membership of more than 67,000 medical
students, premedical students, interns, residents, and practicing
physicians across the country, AMSA continues its commitment
to improving medical training and the nation's health.

Student National Medical Association (SNMA)
The SNMA is the nation's oldest
and largest student organization focused on the needs and concerns
of medical students of color. Membership includes more than 7,000
medical students, pre-medical students, residents, and physicians.

National Network of Latin American Medical Students (NNLAMS)
NNLAMS is a non-profit organization founded to represent, support, educate,
and unify U.S. Latino/a medical students.

Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS)
Founded in
1975, the ANAMS is a student organization representing Native American graduate
health professions students throughout the United States and Canada. ANAMS
is comprised of Native American students enrolled in medical school
or in the allied health professions of dentistry, veterinary, optometry,
podiatry, and pharmacy.
